Ocean-observing satellites and marine meteorology can help fishermen to:
- locate favorable fishing grounds
- reduce operating costs
- improve safety during fishing operations
meet their quotas more efficiently |

· altimetry and surface currents:
this type of observation map indicates the location of ocean eddies, fronts and associated currents, which are generally thought to be good fishing grounds. |
· ocean color:
ocean color indicates phytoplankton concentration. Fish often gather to feed in areas rich in phytoplankton. |
· subsurface temperature:
those maps designed from oceanographics models, provide sub-surface information, down to 300 meters deep. It is very useful for long liner to moor their sidhing lin at the right depth. |
· weather forecast:
each day atmospheric pressure, wind, and wave height are forecast for the next seven days. These data allow fishermen to increase safety and better plan operations at sea. |
